Thanks for sending you cat picture Patti. She is a beautiful kitty, and she reminds me of one of our past cats named Sebastian. They have the same face, but different body coloring. I know what you mean about a cat completing your home. Our present kitty named Stella is a prized part of our home and family.

Here’s what Emma likes about her cat, in her own words:

Something special about him is that he loves to exercise. Once I made a fake fish with catnip in it. He ran around like a crazy wild cat and I heard claws snipping into the floor! When I dangle a string, he bats it around like a coo coo. And when I run around he chases me! He also loves to cuddle. He wakes me up in the morning with a purr and rubs his fur on me. I pet him and pet him, he is so cute!

I LOVE MY CAT!

P.S. CATS RULE!! (dogs drool)

Emma age 7

Editor’s notes: Yes, waking up their owners early in the morning is a favorite pastime for most cats. I know I love it! As a cat, there’s nothing I enjoy more than waking my owners when they are trying to sleep in. If it weren’t for me, those people would spend their lives in bed. ~Dexter Catsby, Editor-in-Chief

According to Stephanie: “My cat’s name is Peanut. Peanut has had a rough life. When I got her on July 10th, 2008 she was 10 weeks old but looked like she was 5 weeks old. She was skin and bones and had all kinds of things wrong with her. She had ringworm, worms for what seemed like forever, ear and eye infection. But now she is a healthy cat. She loves to play and be around people. She is a special cat!”

Thanks Stephanie, for sending your cat picture to the Kitty Spotlight. Sorry it took so long to put online. We had to shuffle our staff of cats because of the economy.

This is the final cat picture in the three-part “Cats of Portugal” series, brought to you by Nélia Ferreira. Other cats in this series include Tobias de Vasconcelos (my new favorite cat name, by the way) and the always sleepy Junior.

According to Nélia:

The black and white cat on the roof is Monsieur Simon Antoine. I brought him to Portugal from Germany, so he is the only cat in that house who has flown in an airplane. He had always been passive to anything else but requesting caresses, until we realized he had chronically endured a light urinary infection that got so bad he had to be operated on. Now “he” is a “she” and does all the things a cat should do: run around, have long exploring walks, climb, play with friends and things, and stretch himself on the warm roof tiles of the house. However, he relishes caresses and is unquestionably benign as much as ever, and is therefore still coined “the Princess.”

According to Nélia:

The black and white cat on the white puff is Tobias de Vasconcelos. I found him in a dumpster. Tobias was a cute fury ball when a baby, but as he grew up he became slim, his legs long and his hair so short he looks like he “has been licked by the cow”, as we say in Portuguese. He carries himself so aristocratically we sometimes refer to him as royalty (hence “de Vasconcelos”). He is terribly peaceful at home (when he is not marking the furniture…), but he spends most of his time outside winning fights with any other cat. He doesn’t look like it, but he is a bad guy!

This is the first of three cat pictures sent to us from Nélia Ferreira, who had the following to say: “Good morning, cat lovers. My name is Nélia Ferreira, I am Portuguese. I have no cats with me in the US, but my parents back home have lots of them, that their children have been collecting from the street.”

Here’s what else Nélia had to say about Junior:

The yellow cat is called Júnior. My sister Lúcia brought him home when a baby from a neighbor. He is very mellow, sometimes even sluggish, his meows are feeble and he can sleep in whatever position his body falls into. In this one, he had been “sitting” like this for quite some time, dozing off and blinking his eyes, only slightly distracted by the motion around him in the garden. However, beware of him when he spots a cat food can, any milk, fish or meat product you accidentally leave unattended!

Kaiti sent in this picture of her new kittens, Socrates and Nietzsche. We will let Kaiti tell you about her wonderful kitties in her own words. The names of these cute cats did put us in a philosophical frame of mind, so we leave you with this philosophical riddle: If a can of tuna is opened in the forest, and no kitties are around to hear it, does it make a sound?

Kaiti’s notes:

Just last week, my husband, daughters, and I adopted a pair of 7-week-old Calico twin sisters, and they are just too adorable to pass up! It’s very amusing to watch them, as they have two very different temperaments. They are named Socrates (she has the white paws and pink nose), and Nietzsche (with the black paws and black nose), and they really do fit the personality of the philosophers they were named for!

Socrates is the observer, who needs more rest, and seems to have endless curiosity. Nietzsche is the trouble-maker, always trying to escape through the screen door, and she’ll push you to your last nerve.

For whatever reason, Socrates seems to have adopted my husband as her “person”, and Nietzsche has, likewise, adopted me as hers. What spectacular additions to our family!

We live in Massillon, Ohio, and also have a 7-year-old orange tabby cat named McGee. She is gradually warming up to the baby kittens.

The sleepy cat in this picture is named Yoda. According to Yoda’s owner: “This is Yoda, he is 6 years old and loves to pose for the camera. Yoda has been in my family since he was 6 weeks old.”

With a name like Yoda, this cute kitty must surely have some Jedi powers. Actually, few people know this, but most cats have a variation of “The Force” through which they can control their owners. I crawl onto my owner’s bed in the morning and meow in his ear until he gets up to feed me. He doesn’t know it, but I am whispering hypnotic suggestions: “You will get up to feed me. You will get up to feed me.” When he finally gets up to feed me, he thinks it was all his idea. Jedi power rocks!

Thank you for sending us the cute picture of Yoda. The force is strong with this one. We can tell just by looking at him.

Sassy saw this picture, along with the names Stash and Riley, and she said it sounded like a TV show about two cops (who happen to be cats). Sort of like Cagney and Lacey, but with Stash and Riley. Sassy knows a Hollywood kitty who acts in movies and commercials, and will pitch her the idea of “Stash and Riley: Kitty Cops.” We think the script basically writes itself.
